I am not THE informed parent
I wanted to clear something up that might seem silly to some, but those who know me will understand why it is important to me to do so. Occasionally when I participate in blog carnivals or when others refer to me and this blog, they write, Mary Nix- the informed parent. I appreciate the links and I appreciate every reference that I receive, but I don’t for one minute consider myself to be a parenting expert, nor do I consider myself to be THE informed parent. I strongly believe that each parent is naturally the best expert for their own family and it is up to each of us to learn the rights and responsibilities of parenting the best we can. I also think it is important to help others to become informed as well.
If we are not well informed, how will we know if or when our rights are being challenged? So, when you see the title of my blog, The Informed Parent, please know it is my heart’s desire for each parent to be the informed parent for their family, fulfilling their responsibilities and claiming their natural or fundamental rights.
Rachel Carson wrote:
If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder, he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement and mystery of the world we live in.
I believe that home education offers families, children and parents alike, just such an opportunity to retain that childlike sense of wonder and to remain or become lifelong learners. For me, learning my responsibilities, rights and finding resources brings me great joy. This blog offers me a very small space on the web to share some of what I learn and a few resources that my family has enjoyed exploring. I look forward to reading each and every blog post that others share in the weekly carnival of homeschooling. Thank you for the opportunity to participate in this week’s Carnival of Homeschooling!

Good information. Thanks!
Thanks Dave. I stopped by your blog and have bookmarked it. My husband would have loved to be the primary parent at home!
