It is hard to believe that it all has been happening. I recall the same frustration at one of the hospitals we were at, but thankfully the next birth was at a birthing center that insisted the babies stay 24/7 with the Mom's. Lately, I've read a lot about midwives being under scrutiny.

It seems that in the last 10-20 years, we have seen a lot of standards based practices added, not only in schools, but in health care, child care and any other spot that others can tell families how to live properly. - Mary

Good synopsis of what seems to be wrong in our country right now starting out with media soundbites. The Florida mom was awesome and I hope she stays empowered enough to find other options than that school.
The situation in TX is such a complicated mess. But the removal of all the children (including the nursing babes) just breaks my heart.
The more personal and unsettling aspect of that is the same sort of attitude in the hospital when my kids were born. If the babes went out of my sight, I learned that a bottle was very often given to them, despite my instructions that they would only be nursed.
We didn't stay in the hospital long for that very reason. We didn't seem to be in charge of our children.
